Techy Tuesday: Europe Won’t Need Any New Power Plants!

Amazing news from Europe shows how renewable energy really can help us combat climate change and pollution. Think Progress reported that Germany gets a third of its power from wind and solar and Great Britain gets over 20 percent.  At this rate, says the article, Europe will not have to build any new traditional power plants, and can allow the old ones to simply retire and close down.  All the old, dirty oil and coal plants will be shuttered permanently!  Another bright spot is Africa, which will add more renewable energy in 2014 than in the last 14 years combined.
Meanwhile, here in the US people face extra fees imposed by the government and utilities or prohibitions from homeowner associations – even as Verizon, Google and Ford all work on their own efforts to unplug from the grid.
